According to head coach Chuck Wilcoxen, freshman
Jacob Meier was on fire in his 800-meter heat. Meier placed second in his heat, and fourteenth in the overall meet, running a personal best of 1:55.56. Not only a fast time for a freshman athlete, but this puts him on Principia's top-ten performance list at the sixth spot. In his pursuit of becoming one of the fastest 800-meter runners that Principia College has put a uniform on, Meier is well within reach of his other goals. Meier will continue to train and will compete at the North Central College meets later this May in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championships.
In the hunt for a national qualifying mark is teammate sophomore
Drew Clark. He also competed at the Billy Hayes Invitational this Friday, May 7 in what turned out to be less favorable weather with strong winds. Clark ended up running a personal best in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9:37.92,but finished sixth overall in the meet scoring the only points for the men's team. He will continue to train and run in his favorite race, the 1500-meter run at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois later this month.
Meier and Clark will be joined by more teammates later this month as more distance athletes look to run personal best times.
