A sophomore transfer from NCAA Division I Bryant University, Clark has improved his 3000-meter run time by 12 seconds to 8:47.28, resetting his own school record set last week at Illinois College, and also a career personal best.
On a fast track where many athletes have run, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has hosted a few NCAA championships both indoors and outdoors. The only catch to the record-setting performance was the miscounting of laps by meet officials.
The officials had not realized that there was one more lap remaining in the race when the "final-lap bell" was rung. With sharp voices both Principia College coaches yelled to Drew Clark, "One more lap!" It was at that moment, that after surging in the second to last lap that Clark steadfastly made another move and maintained his surge into yet another lap. With a competitor pursuing in second place, but not as determined, Clark crossed the finish line in 8:47.28 with a career personal record.
